Queensland sinks $1.97m into SES groups

Local Queensland State Emergency Service (SES) groups are set to share in close to $2 million via the State Government’s SES Support Grant Initiative.

In total, 32 SES groups from areas as far west as Doomadgee to the south at the Gold Coast, will share in $1.97 million said Minister for Police and Emergency Services, Dan Purdie.

Mr Purdie said the grants were an investment in the State’s resilience, helping the SES respond and support the community in times of crisis.

“Our SES groups play a critical role in natural disasters and our Government is pleased to be able to boost capability ahead of the next major weather event,” he said.

“These grants will help ensure SES groups are armed with the essentials to help them continue to perform their great work to keep communities safe, right across Queensland.”

Successful applicants will receive grants to assist in the purchase of new vehicles, the establishment of new facilities, upgrades to training sites and security improvements.

Key SES initiatives nominated by local Queensland councils include:

  • $225,000 for vehicle replacements at the Atherton SES depot
  • $150,000 for the establishment of a SES facility in Doomadgee Aboriginal Shire Council
  • More than $123,000 for sand pit structures in Babinda, Edmonton, Machans Beach, Buchan Point, Gordonvale and Holloways Beach
  • More than $123,000 for revitalising and reinforcement of the Ingham SES building
