Nominations open for language teacher awards

Nominations are now open for the Outstanding Community Language Teacher of the Year Awards 2026, celebrating the teachers who strengthen Western Australia’s linguistic and cultural diversity.

Presented by Community Languages WA in partnership with the Office of Multicultural Interests, the annual awards recognise educators who demonstrate exceptional commitment to language preservation, student engagement, and community connection.

Two award categories will be presented, the Outstanding Community Language Teacher of the Year Award and the Emerging Community Language Teacher of the Year Award.

“Community language teachers are champions of culture and connection who invest their time and talent to ensure the many languages spoken within our community can be passed on to future generations,”  said Multicultural Interests Minister, Tony Buti.

“These awards shine a light on the positive difference these educators make, not just within their classroom but throughout the community.

“I encourage those involved in community language education in Western Australia to submit a nomination for the Outstanding Community Language Teacher of the Year Awards as a chance to celebrate the teachers who keep our languages alive and our communities connected.”

Community members, students, parents, and school leaders are encouraged to submit nominations for teachers who have made a meaningful and lasting impact.

Nominations for the Outstanding Community Language Teacher of the Year Awards 2026 close on Monday, 15 June.
