West Tarneit Station opened to passengers this morning, with the new station set to better cater to the public transport needs of Melbourne’s growing west.
The new station features a 400-space car park, four-bay bus interchange, and secure bicycle storage and hoops. Both platforms are fully accessible, with ramps, stairs and a pedestrian underpass.
There will be improved bus connections from day one, with more than 1,100 weekly services added to the Tarneit bus network.
“West Tarneit Station gives locals more ways to get around, with new bus connections, parking and better access to our rail network,” said Minister for Transport, Vicki Ward.
A new Route 186 bus will operate between Tarneit Station and West Tarneit Station, via Dohertys Road. Route 182 will run to a higher frequency and travel via the new West Tarneit Station.
Crews will continue landscaping works while the station is open, planting more than 65,000 native trees, plants and grasses, alongside new seating and walking and cycling paths.
“West Tarneit Station is a major investment in better transport for Melbourne’s west, helping local communities keep pace with growth,” said Member for Tarneit, Dylan Wight.
“The station is integrated into the local transport network from day one, with two connecting bus routes and 400 car spaces.”
