MP arrested over alleged assault on NT Administrator

Northern Territory Police have today arrested Federal member for Solomon, Luke Gosling, in relation to an alleged assault on the Administrator of the Northern Territory, David Connolly.

It is alleged the incident occurred at the NT Thailand Grand Festival on Saturday 18 July involving the 54-year-old politician and the NT Administrator.

Investigations in the alleged assault began last week, with Police arresting the 54-year-old earlier this morning. He remains in custody, NT Police said in a statement.

Mr Gosling, a former army commando and the Commonwealth’s special envoy for defence and veterans affairs, last week denied the assault allegations.

“These are ridiculous allegations that I categorically deny,” he said in a statement.

“I’ve had no dealings with the Administrator since congratulating him following the announcement of his appointment late last year.”

In a statement following the festival, a spokesman for the Administrator’s said “an incident occurred during His Honour the Administrator’s official attendance at a community event over the weekend”.

“The matter has been referred to the Northern Territory Police Force,” they stated.

“As the matter is under investigation, no further comment will be made regarding the incident or the parties involved.”
