The NSW Police Force has announced changes to its COVID-19 vaccination policy, which could allow the return of former officers who lost their jobs over their refusal to receive vaccination injections during the pandemic.
The move will see the Force take its coronavirus vaccination policy requirement from a ‘mandatory’ to ‘recommended’ status.
In a statement, NSWP said this “would allow former officers who separated while the mandate was in place may be eligible to return to policing.”
“As a result of this policy change, the Commissioner is considering, on a case-by-case basis, reappointing former members who separated from the NSW Police Force at the time the mandatory policy was in place.
“If you are a former police officer who separated under these circumstances and wish to reengage, you will need to satisfy a suitability assessment. This includes physical, medical and psychological testing.”
Once cleared, returning officers will be required to complete a 12-week course at the NSW Police Academy.
Former police officers wishing to reengage should email recruiting@police.nsw.gov.au.
Former administrative staff may apply to advertised positions on https://iworkfor.nsw.gov.au.
