Land secured for new Hervey Bay police station

The Queensland Government has secured land at Kawungan for a new $28 million Hervey Bay police station, replacing the policing region’s existing facility.

The project, which will be built on a site on Richard Charles Drive, is progressing through design, with construction expected to be completed in 2028.

The purpose-built facility will accommodate general duties and specialist police officers, as well as staff, providing a modern operational base for frontline policing across the Wide Bay Burnett district for decades to come.

Minister for Police and Emergency Services, Dan Purdie said securing the land was an important milestone in delivering the new facility to make Queensland safer.

“The land is secured, the investment is locked in and work is progressing on a new $28 million police facility for Hervey Bay,” Minister Purdie said.

“This is about giving our hardworking police the modern facilities they need to do their jobs and keeping pace with a growing Wide Bay Burnett community.

“The Crisafulli Government is backing the frontline with more police, better equipment and the infrastructure they need to keep Queenslanders safe.”

Queensland Police Assistant Commissioner Kevin Gutteridge said the new facility would strengthen policing capability across the Wide Bay Burnett.

“We see the establishment of the new facility as more than a police station; we see it as a community asset for the people of the Bay,” he said.

“We know that the community has grown significantly and we’ve grown our workforce and outgrown our current station.  The officers here do an outstanding job in serving the community and we want them to have the resources, including the facilities, they need to serve the community now and into the future.

“These facilities won’t just be used by local police, they will also be utilised by specialist units during their deployments to the city. This can include the State Flying Squad and State Drug Squad, who have both recently been deployed to Hervey Bay for targeted operations,” Assistant Commissioner Gutteridge said.
