Capricornia Police recognised at awards ceremony

Capricornia Police District officers have received medals, certificates and awards at a ceremony held in Rockhampton today.

More than 120 medals and certificates were presented, including Blue Heart Medals, a Meritorious Service Medal, Emergency Response Medals, a Commissioner’s Certificate, Assistant Commissioner’s Certificates, and Queensland Police Exemplary Conduct Medal and Certificates.

This year there were six recipients of Blue Heart Medals, awarded to members of the Queensland Police Service who have passed away or been severely injured whilst carrying out their duties during an operational incident.

A Commissioner’s Certificate was awarded to Dr Karen Quinn, who for more than 20 years, provided exceptional support to the QPS through her work in forensic medical examinations.

Her commitment to victim-centred care and timeless support of investigators and response to critical incidents enhanced outcomes for victims of serious offences and criminal investigations across Central Queensland and beyond.

Four officers received an Assistant Commissioner’s Certificate in recognition of their leadership and professionalism during significant intelligence-led policing operations in 2024 that saw 328 offenders charged with a total of 717 offences.

Capricornia District Officer Superintendent Mark Burgess congratulated all members on their significant contributions to the Queensland Police Service.

“Every recipient should be proud of the hard work they do for their communities each and every day,” said Superintendent Burgess.

“Every medal represents the sacrifice, courage and professionalism they bring to the service, to protecting our communities, and the lasting impact they make to the safety and wellbeing of all Queenslanders.”

“I’d like to congratulate all those recognised and honoured at today’s ceremony.”
