Northern Territory Police have arrested two men following the seizure of a large quantity of kava in Milingimbi.
In a statement, NT Police said that at around 4pm on Friday afternoon, local officers attended an address in the community and conducted a lawful search, seizing 26 storage bags containing more than 365 kilograms of kava.
Two men, aged 25 and 28, who are not residents of the community, were arrested at the scene.
They remain in police custody with charges expected to follow.
“I want to thank the members of the community who continue to report this behaviour to police. The community is fed up, and we will act on the information provided,” said Remote Sergeant Robert Angove.
“The unlawful sale of kava has ongoing and damaging effects within remote communities, and we will continue to target those seeking to profit from this harm.”
