$100 back-to-school vouchers for Queensland families

From the start of the 2026 school year, every primary school student in Queensland enrolled and attending Prep to Year 6 will receive a $100 Back to School Boost voucher to help cover the cost of school essentials, the Government has announced as part of its 2025-26 Budget.

The $100 voucher will be delivered via schools for students who are enrolled and attending, and can be used to help cover costs of books, stationery, devices and uniforms, as well as extracurricular activities including sports and arts, said Premier, David Crisafulli.

The Premier has pledged to fund the $100 Back to School Boost every year, as a new ongoing cost of living relief measure, as part of a $250 million investment in the State’s education system. 

“We are delivering a Back to School Boost, each and every year, to deliver ongoing cost of living relief for Queensland families,” he said.

“The start of school is an expensive time and we’re delivering support where and when it’s needed to help cover the cost of back-to-school essentials. 

“We always said cost of living relief should be long-term and that’s why the Back to School Boost will be delivered each and every year.”  

Treasurer David Janetzki said the Budget was delivering long-term relief to help ease Labor’s Cost of Living Crisis. 

“Queensland families have been doing it tough which is why the Back to School Boost will deliver help where and when it’s needed,” Treasurer Janetzki said.  

“Families deserve certainty and we are delivering structural cost of living relief, just like we promised.” 

Minister for Education John-Paul Langbroek said the program provides what students need in the classroom to remove the cost barriers to learning.  

“We want all children to receive a world-class education and this payment will apply to state, independent and Catholic schools to ensure no one misses out,” Minister Langbroek said.  

“Supporting families to obtain the stationery, books and resources needed will set their kids up for success and have them looking forward to starting the school year. 

“This adds to our recent announcements to bolster support for teachers, improve behaviour in the classroom and stamp out bullying with $222.1 million allocated in this Budget.”
