WA number plates turning Japanese

Following high demand from Western Australian drivers, Plates WA is now offering Japanese style vehicle number plates.

Transport WA says the Japanese plate series offers a more authentic look on Japanese vehicles or on any car to “show pride in Japanese culture and honour family history”.

With three colour options available: green on white, white on black and black on white, the plates have been designed to better fit Japanese domestic market (JDM) car dimensions.

The plates are customisable with up to six characters and are only available for motor vehicles.

“There has been a high demand for Japanese style plates from the WA community, so it is exciting to launch this plate series,” said Minister Assisting the Transport Minister, Jessica Stojkovski.

“We know that Japanese car culture is big here in WA and JDM car owners are very passionate.

“Whether car enthusiasts want to make their JDM cars more aesthetically pleasing or someone wants to honour their family heritage, they can display the Japanese plates with pride.”

The Minister said Japanese style plates have proven popular with Japanese car owners in other Australian jurisdictions, with Japanese plates available in NSW, Queensland, Victoria, Tasmania and South Australia.

As an optional plate, drivers have the right to display or trade the Japanese series, and have it remade if lost, stolen or damaged.

The custom Japanese plates are available for $495 at www.plateswa.com.
