Victorian Police sergeant facing 78 child abuse, rape charges

A 42-year-old Victoria Police officer already facing child abuse material charges is now facing a further 78 charges, including two counts of rape.

Professional Standards Command investigators, with the assistance of the Queensland Police Service, charged the sergeant from Transit and Public Safety Command following an internal investigation.

The male officer was initially charged in June with one count of sexual activity in the presence of a child under 16 and three counts of access child abuse material.

“The 42-year-old was arrested in Townsville, Queensland, yesterday and charged with a further 78 offences including two counts of rape, 30 counts of produce child abuse material and 38 counts of possess child abuse material,” Victoria Police said in a statement today.

“The charges relate to alleged offences that occurred between August 2014 and May 2023 in Victoria while he was off duty.”

He was due to appearing before the Townsville Magistrates Court this afternoon, where investigators will seek his extradition back to Victoria.
