Three females have been arrested over an alleged assault on three Northern Territory Police officers while attending the Noonamah Rodeo on Saturday night.
In a statement, Police said event security apprehended a 17-year-old female who had been denied entry to the rodeo event at around 9.10pm. During the apprehension, a group of youths allegedly approached the officers, making demands to release the teenager.
“It is alleged that three members of the group then physically assaulted three of the attending officers with one of the youths throwing a mobile phone, striking one of the officers on the head,” NT Police said.
“Officers were treated at the scene with no significant injuries reported.
“The youth that police were originally dealing with was not involved in the assault.”
All three offenders were arrested at the scene, with an 18-year-old expected to be charged later today with assault police.
Two other teen girls – aged 16 and 17 – are expected to be summonsed for their alleged offending at a later date.
“Assaulting a frontline worker who is trying to serve and protect their community is shameful,” said Commander David Moore.
“I am glad that no one was seriously injured, and the offenders will face charges for their actions.”
