Queensland detectives have charged a 25-year-old man after a police officer struck by a stolen car at South Mackay on Sunday.
Queensland Police received information at around 10am on Sunday that a stolen white Rav4 was at an address on Paradise Street.
“When police arrived on the scene, the male driver of the Rav4 allegedly reversed out of the driveway, striking two police vehicles,” QPS said in a statement.
“A male constable, who had exited the police vehicle in an attempt to arrest the driver, was struck by the Rav4 before the driver allegedly fled the scene in the vehicle.”
The officer received an injury to his foot and was taken to hospital.
“After leaving Paradise Street, the Rav4 was sighted travelling around the Paget and Oorlea areas before crashing on the Mackay Ring Road at 10.20am,” Police said.
The 25-year-old male driver and sole occupant fled on foot and was arrested this on Monday. He has been charged with two counts of enter dwelling with intent, and one count each of endangering police officer when driving a motor vehicle, damaging emergency vehicle when operating motor vehicle, enter dwelling and commit, unlawful use of motor vehicles, enter premises and commit indictable offence, attempted enter dwelling with intent.
He is due to appear before Mackay Magistrates Court today.
Police say the Rav4 used in the alleged incident had been reported stolen from a home on Lindeman Avenue in the Townsville suburb of Cranbrook at approximately 2.30am on Sunday.
A 20-year-old woman was also arrested at the Paradise Street scene and has been charged with unlawful use of a motor vehicle. Her bail has been refused, and she was due to appear in Mackay Magistrates Court yesterday.
Police investigations into the incident are ongoing.
