Police seize $350,000 in Riverina vehicle stop

A man has been charged after NSW Police seized more than $350,000 cash during a traffic stop in the state’s Riverina.

Officers attached to Riverina Highway Patrol were conducting random mobile testing at around 1.15pm on Sunday on the Hume Highway, Tumblong, about 15km south-east of Gundagai, when they stopped a car travelling north for the purpose of a random test, NSW Police said in a statement.

The 23-year-old driver was subjected to a roadside breath and drug test, which returned a negative result.

Officers searched the vehicle and allegedly found a plastic shopping bag containing $350,110 cash.

The Victorian man was arrested and taken to Gundagai Police Station where he was charged with deal with recklessly deal with proceeds of crime greater than $5,000.

He was refused bail to appear in Bail Division Court 5.
