The Queensland Government has released its 10-year vision to strengthen the volunteer sector, remove barriers to participation and recognise the vital contribution volunteers make to Queensland communities.
The Queensland Volunteering Plan 2026–2036 delivers on a key commitment from the Government’s response to the Parliamentary Inquiry into Volunteering in Queensland, shaped by consultation with volunteers, organisations and stakeholders.
Minister for Fire, Disaster Recovery and Volunteers, Ann Leahy said Queensland’s greatest strength has always been its people, and its volunteers help build a better State.
“Every day, volunteers embody the enduring spirit of Queenslanders helping Queenslanders, giving their time, skills and passion to support the people and causes they care about,” Minister Leahy said.
“We’ve listened to Queenslanders and developed a plan focused on where government can make the greatest difference by building capability, removing barriers and making sure volunteers are valued for the contribution they make.
“With Brisbane 2032 on the horizon, we have a unique opportunity to inspire a new generation of volunteers and strengthen community leadership.
“The plan leads up to, through and beyond the Games, because a strong volunteer sector will continue to be vital to Queensland communities long after 2032.”
Volunteering Queensland CEO, Jane Hedger said the plan recognises that volunteering is changing, and that volunteers and the organisations that support them need the right support to thrive.
“As Queensland’s peak body for volunteering, we hear directly from volunteers and volunteer-involving organisations about what’s working and where more support is needed,” Ms Hedger said.
“People want to contribute in ways that fit their lives, and organisations need the capability, resources and support to make that possible.
“Our role is to make sure the sector’s experience and needs help shape the implementation of the Plan, and that we advocate for the infrastructure to support it.
“Over the next decade, we have an opportunity to work with communities, business and government to grow volunteering, support and sustain volunteer involving organisations, and ensure volunteers are valued for their contribution.”
