Queensland counter-terrorism police charge teen with attack planning

Detectives from the Queensland Police Counter-Terrorism Investigation Group have charged an 18-year-old man following a tip received from the National Security Hotline.

It will be alleged that the man was making plans for acts of violence, and a tip was received from the National Security Hotline yesterday, prompting police investigations.

The 18-year-old South Gladstone man was yesterday arrested and charged with one count of planning to cause death or grievous bodily harm.

Police have opposed his bail, and he is expected to appear before Gladstone Magistrates Court today.

“The Queensland Police Service (QPS) reassures the community that there are no known ongoing direct threats to the community or any upcoming events at this time,” QPS said in a statement.

“The safety and security of our communities remain the Service’s highest priority.

“The QPS continues to work in close collaboration with our federal and state counterparts to ensure the safety of all Queenslanders.”

Anyone with information about possible threats to the community should come forward, no matter how small or insignificant you may think the information may be. The National Security Hotline is 1800 123 400.
