The 2024 Minister’s Student Congress of nearly 200 ACT public school students met today, the first Congress held in person since 2019.
The Minister’s Student Congress is an opportunity for ACT public school students to come together to discuss issues which matter to them and affect their education, said Minister for Education, Yvette Berry.
The congress allows the Minister to hear directly from school students.
This year’s Congress focused on four subjects:
- Artificial Intelligence
- Student Centred Learning
- Mental Health Supports, and
- Strengthening School and Community Connections.
“Last year, we put together a Student Working Group so that students could decide the agenda and topics for this year’s Congress,” said Minister Berry.
“The Minister’s Student Congress is all about hearing from our students on the key issues relating to their education. Today’s discussion items are some of the most pressing issues for our students and I’m eager to hear what they have to say.
“The Congress is an opportunity for ACT public school students of all ages, Kindergarten to year 12.”
Following the Congress, student feedback will be collated and provided directly to the Minister.
“ACT public school students are incredibly bright and have big ideas for the future of education. I can’t wait to use their feedback as we collectively contribute to building the best public education system in the country,” she said.
