Police sergeant charged with mid-range drink driving

An off-duty NSW Police officer has been charged with mid-range drink driving after undergoing a random breath test in Ryde yesterday morning.

In a statement, NSW Police said that at around 7.25am on Saturday, officers were undertaking stationary random roadside breath testing at the intersection of Victoria Road and Belmore Street when they stopped a vehicle and requested the driver undertake a breath analysis.

The 50-year-old male driver – an off-duty sergeant attached to a specialist command – was breath tested and returned a positive result.

He was arrested and taken to Gladesville Police Station where he underwent a secondary breath analysis and returned an alleged reading of 0.093.

The man, who was travelling with a child in the vehicle, was charged with drive with mid-range PCA and his licence was suspended.

He will appear before Burwood Local Court on Tuesday 30 September.
