Police motorcyclist struck by van during vehicle stop

A NSW Police motorcyclist has been taken to hospital after being struck by a minivan while conducting a vehicle stop at Narellan this morning.

Emergency services were called to The Northern Road shortly before 5.30am today, after the officer was struck by a Kia Carnival while he was standing beside his motorcycle performing a vehicle stop, NSW Police said in a statement.

The officer – believed to be aged in his 40s and attached to Traffic and Highway Patrol Command – was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics for a suspected hip injury before being taken to Liverpool Hospital.

The driver of the SUV, a 42-year-old man, has been taken for mandatory testing.

The Northern Road is closed southbound at Narellan just past Fairwater Drive. Southbound traffic is being diverted into Porrende Street, Grahams Hill Road, Camden Valley Way and Narellan Road.

Motorists are advised to allow extra travel time and exercise caution.

Emergency services and traffic crews are on site, with officers attached to the Crash Investigation Unit (CIU) en route to the scene.
