National win for NSW Government graduate program

The NSW Government has been named as Australia’s most popular Government and Defence graduate employer in the Australian Financial Review’s Top 100 Graduate Employers list, announced last night at a ceremony in Sydney.

It is the sixth time the NSW Government Graduate Program has been named the best in Government and Defence by the AFR’s national list. The program also earned a coveted position among the top 10 graduate employers nationwide and was a finalist in the Most Popular Business and Commerce employer category.

“Our graduates are the future leaders of NSW. The diverse nature of our work and the flexibility we provide means they can use their skills and interests to directly benefit their community while gaining rich experiences and building their career,” said NSW Public Service Commissioner, Kathrina Lo.

Since it began in 2016, the 18-month program has kick-started the careers of more than 1,450 graduates. Graduates work on diverse projects and contribute to making NSW a great place to live, work and visit.

The program offers graduates the opportunity to work in their field of study with a generalist stream alongside specialist social work, engineering, digital and legal streams.

Graduates are able to make contributions to their local communities in every corner of the state, with 6 per cent of graduates working across regional areas in the North Coast, Hunter, Central Tablelands, Riverina and South East NSW.

“Being named Australia’s top Government and Defence graduate employer is a testament to our commitment to fostering talent and creating a public sector where excellence thrives,” said NSW Premier, Chris Minns.

“I extend my heartfelt congratulations to the NSW Government Graduate Program and thank the Public Service Commission and all participating Government departments for contributing to its success year in year out.”

“To our new cohort of graduates, as you embark on this exciting journey, I wish you the very best of luck. Your dedication and passion will undoubtedly shape a brighter future for our state and beyond, there is no higher calling,” he said.
