The NSW Government has today announced the appointment of Rebecca Pinkstone as the inaugural Chief Executive of Homes NSW, the new Department of Communities and Justice division set up to drive positive change in the housing and homelessness sectors.
Ms Pinkstone has almost two decades of experience in the housing sector, most recently as the Chief Executive Office of Community Housing Provider Bridge Housing. Prior to joining Bridge Housing, she held senior policy, strategy and program roles in NSW Government.
Secretary of the Department of Communities and Justice, Michael Tidball said Ms Pinkstone will lead Homes NSW to deliver better outcomes for social and affordable housing tenants and applicants, boost affordable and social housing supply, and help reduce the rate of homelessness across NSW.
“Homes NSW represents a significant opportunity to reform the homelessness and social housing sectors towards better outcomes, at a time when the need for housing has never been greater,” said Mr Tidball.
“The Department of Communities and Justice (DCJ) supports some of the most vulnerable people in our community and we look forward to delivering improved services through Homes NSW under Rebecca’s leadership.”
Homes NSW consolidates the housing and homelessness functions of the Department of Communities and Justice (DCJ), the Land and Housing Corporation (LAHC) and the Aboriginal Housing Office (AHO), streamlining services by bringing them under one roof.
Minister for Housing and Homelessness, Rose Jackson said Homes NSW puts people at the heart of housing and will cut red tape by forming a single entity to deliver new social and affordable housing and assist people in need to get a roof over their heads.
“I am thrilled that someone with Rebecca’s skills, experience and passion for social and affordable housing will be driving reform in the sector to ensure more people have access to safe and stable homes,” said Minister Jackson.
Ms Pinkstone said she was excited by the opportunity to deliver more social and affordable housing a better experience for residents.
“With housing pressures front of mind for so many people, the need for this change is critically important and I am looking forward to the challenge,” she said.
She will take up her new role on 1 February 2024.
