Head to Health program to be expanded

Additional free walk-in mental health care services for adults will soon be available in NSW, with locations for new Head to Health services agreed between the Australian and NSW Governments.

Together the Australian and State Government will provide $45.7 million over four years to establish and operate new services in Dubbo, Wagga Wagga, Young, Bathurst, Coffs Harbour, Muswellbrook and Moruya.

“The Australian Government is working with all states and territories to make mental health support and care more accessible for people wherever they live,” said Assistant Minister for Mental Health and Suicide Prevention, Emma McBride.

“I’m delighted that agreement has been reached on the locations of the next wave of services in New South Wales.

“These services will make it easier for people in many regions of the state to get the help they need, when they need it,” she said.

Services are currently available in Penrith, Lismore, Canterbury and the Central Coast, with services in Liverpool, Parramatta, Shellharbour and Hawkesbury set to open later this year.

Head to Health services offer short to medium-term care for people with moderate to severe mental health needs, and immediate support and follow-up can be provided to people presenting in crisis.

“People in our regions have suffered enough over the past three years. This investment is just the start of our long-term plan to deliver high-quality mental health support where it is needed most,” said NSW Mental Health Minister, Rose Jackson.

“This funding to seven key locations across regional NSW will help fast-track free care without the need for appointments to provide help for those who need it now.”

Head to Health services can be accessed by calling 1800 595 212 or by visiting a nearby location. Read more information about Head to Health.
