Territorians are being encouraged to recognise outstanding NT Fire and Emergency Services (NTFES) members for the Administrator’s Medal of the Year 2026, with a new dedicated Bushfires NT category introduced for the first time.
The awards recognise the dedication and service of NTFES staff and volunteers who respond to some of the Territory’s most challenging emergencies, including fires, bushfires, cyclones, storms, floods and road crash rescues, and support communities before, during and after disasters.
“NT Fire and Emergency Services staff and volunteers support communities across the Territory, from responding to fires, bushfires, cyclones, storms and floods, to helping people prepare for and recover from emergencies,” said Commissioner, Northern Territory Fire and Emergency Services, Andrew Warton.
“The introduction of a dedicated Bushfires NT category recognises the unique and important role Bushfires NT staff and volunteers play in working alongside landholders, pastoralists and communities to manage bushfire risk across the Territory.
“Following the significant emergency response efforts during the 2025-26 high risk weather season, many Territorians will have seen first-hand the dedication, professionalism and compassion of our staff and volunteers. I encourage community members to nominate those who have made a difference and help us recognise their outstanding service,” he said.
Nominations are open across four categories:
- Career Firefighter of the Year
- Auxiliary or Volunteer Firefighter of the Year
- Emergency Service Employee or Volunteer of the Year
- Bushfires NT Volunteer or Employee of the Year.
The awards will be presented by Administrator of the Northern Territory, David Connolly, later this year.
