Queensland Premier, David Crisafulli, has announced the appointment of Amanda Stoker as Minister for Families, Seniors and Disability Services and Minister for Child Safety and the Prevention of Domestic and Family Violence, after Amanda Camm stepped down from the role on Friday due to illness.
The Premier said Ms Stoker (pictured, centre) brings a wealth of experience from her time serving at the private bar, where she practiced in commercial law, administrative law and corporate crime.
During her time as an Australian Senator, she served as Assistant Minister to the Attorney-General, Assistant Minister for Industrial Relations and Assistant Minister for Women, as well as chair of the Senate Legal and Constitutional Affairs Legislation Committee, and deputy chair of the Legal and Constitutional Affairs References Committee.
The Premier also announced the appointment of Natalie Marr, who will step into the role of Assistant Minister of Finance, Trade, Employment and Training, following Amanda Stoker’s elevation to the ministry.
“Amanda is stepping in to continue delivering critical reform for better protection of children and victims of crime,” Premier Crisafulli said.
“Her job is to build on the foundations of reform set in motion by Amanda Camm.
“She will implement the Government’s response to the Commission of Inquiry, with fewer children in residential care and more in foster care and adoption.
“Equally, Amanda’s priorities will be refining our nation-leading domestic and family violence laws, rolling out the perpetrator electronic monitoring pilot across the State and delivering more support for victims of domestic and family violence.
“Natalie will be another strong voice for regional Queensland in the assistant ministry.
“With Natalie’s small business experience and knowledge gained during her time as the finance chair as a Townsville City Councillor, she will deliver strong support to Minister Bates.
“Her role will be instrumental to our delivery of TAFEs for the first time in a decade and easing the skilled worker shortage we inherited, as we look ahead to our infrastructure pipeline.”
