The families of the two NSW Police officers shot during the terrorist attack at Bondi Beach on Sunday have thanked the public for their support as the pair recover in hospital.
Constable Scott Dyson (pictured) and Probationary Constable Jack Hibbert both remain in hospital, with Const Hibbert undergoing surgery to his shoulder and eye at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital after being shot by one of the gunmen.
In a statement issued by NSW Police, both families shared their “heartfelt gratitude to all first responders who acted with courage, in particular the police officers and paramedics who responded”.
“They also wish to thank their hospital team, and especially those in ICU,” NSW Police said in a statement on Monday evening.
“They thank the community for their support but have asked for privacy as their loved ones focus on recovery and healing.”
In a social media post, the NSW Police Mounted Unit also threw its support behind the injured officers, writing, “Our thoughts and prayers are with our colleagues who showed bravery and courage beyond measure. Get well soon boys, we are all behind you.
“And to the community and members of the public who helped and supported our officers and the public in such difficult circumstances, we are forever grateful.”
NSW Health Minister, Ryan Park met with Prob Constable Hibbert’s family yesterday.
“He was extremely brave when everyone was running away,” Minister Park said.
“He was essentially running towards where the incident was taking place and that’s an incredible level of bravery.”
