New leadership for key Queensland agencies

The Queensland Government has announced new appointments to the expiring Boards of Economic Development Queensland (EDQ), Work Health and Safety Queensland, WorkCover Queensland and the Contract Cleaning Industry (Portable Long Service Leave) Authority.

From 1 July, Brendan O’Farrell will continue as Chair of Economic Development Queensland, overseeing the agency’s role in accelerating housing supply, unlocking industrial land and supporting economic growth.

Joining the EDQ Board are Krista Adams, Tony Sowden, Michael McNab, Emma McCaughey and Sally Mlikota, who collectively bring significant expertise in development, planning and property.

The Board will continue to oversee delivery of the Government’s nation-leading Land Activation Program, Infrastructure Activation Fund and Industrial Land Acceleration Program.

The Work Health and Safety Board will continue under the leadership of Chair Michael Hart, with Kim McCosker, Tracie Deegan and Abby Sommer joining continuing members Lindsay Carroll, Andrew Chapman and Jack McGuire to provide expert advice on Queensland’s work health and safety policy framework.

WorkCover Queensland will continue to be chaired by Chloe Kopilovic, with Deputy Chair Greg Hallam, who were originally appointed until December 2029.

New directors, Councillor Lawrence Springborg AM, Matthew Crossley, Scott Armstrong, Roz White, Trent Twomey, Fiona Hammond and Renee Cooper will help guide the organisation in delivering strong outcomes for Queensland workers and employers.

The Contract Cleaning Industry (Portable Long Service Leave) Authority will be chaired by Mark Paddenburg, with David Ford appointed Deputy Chair.

New directors, Neville Wilmott and Bridey McMillan-Tooth, will join returning directors Kenneth Holder and Kim Puxty, to oversee the operation of Queensland’s portable long service leave scheme for eligible contract cleaning workers and provide advice to the Government.

“Refreshing these Boards ensures our key agencies have the experience, commercial expertise and strategic leadership needed to deliver the policies Queenslanders elected us to implement,” said Deputy Premier and Minister for State Development, Infrastructure and Planning, Jarrod Bleijie.

“Economic Development Queensland is central to unlocking more homes, more industrial land and more infrastructure, while our industrial relations boards also play a vital role in supporting safe workplaces, protecting workers and employers and maintaining confidence in Queensland’s regulatory framework.

“I thank the outgoing members for their service and welcome the new appointees, who will help deliver a fresh approach to governance and strong outcomes for Queensland.”
