The Northern Territory Government has welcomed the appointment of Calvary Health Care as the new operator of Darwin Private Hospital.
Chief Minister, Lia Finocchiaro said Calvary had an established record of delivering private hospital, maternity, community and aged care services across Australia and its appointment as the new operator of Darwin Private Hospital will support the long-term sustainability of the health care sector.
“Returning private maternity has been a huge fight but Territorians won and we can rebuild what should never have been taken away from us,” said the Chief Minister.
“I welcome Calvary’s commitment to restore maternity alongside other important services at Darwin Private Hospital.”
NT Minister for Health, Steve Edgington congratulated Calvary on its successful bid, saying the appointment provided renewed confidence in the future of private healthcare in the Territory.
“This is a great outcome for the Territory and an important step towards securing a strong and sustainable future for Darwin Private Hospital,” he said.
“Calvary brings significant experience, capability and a strong commitment to patient care, and we look forward to working closely with them during the transition to the new operating arrangements.
“Our Government has been clear that restoring private maternity services is a priority for Territory families.
“We will now work constructively with Calvary to develop a sustainable pathway to reinstate private maternity services and restore choice for women and families in the Territory.”
The Government said it will continue working with Calvary, clinicians, hospital staff and other stakeholders to support a smooth transition, and the ongoing delivery of safe, high-quality private hospital services.
