Western Australians can now explore the decisions and issues that shaped the State three decades ago, with the release of the 1995 State Cabinet records.
Held in the State archives by the State Records Office of Western Australia, the records provide an official account of the key matters considered by the government of the day, including a Royal Commission into Use of Executive Power, funding for mental health and AIDS treatment, and the future of Stateships.
The new Guide to 1995 State Cabinet Records describes the Cabinet papers, key issues, and historical context surrounding decisions made during the year, making the collection easier for researchers and the wider community to explore.
“State Cabinet records provide a fascinating window into Western Australia’s past and the decisions that helped shape the State we know today,” said Creative Industries Minister, Simone McGurk.
“The release of the 1995 records gives researchers, historians, and curious Western Australians the opportunity to look behind the headlines and better understand the issues facing the government of the day.
“The new online guide makes this important part of our history easier to navigate, while the original records remain available for people to explore in person and learn more about our State’s political and social history.”
