A Sergeant from Victoria Police North West Metro region has been charged following an internal investigation.
The 41-year-old man has been charged with intentionally causing serious injury, reckless assault causing injury, common law assault and two counts of unlawful assault.
Police say the alleged incident occurred in Melbourne’s CBD in October last year when the police officer was on duty.
He was charged on summons to appear before a magistrates’ court at a later date.
