The NSW Government has this week awarded contracts for the design and construction of more than 40 new public preschools, to be co-located with existing public schools.
The new public preschools, set to be delivered by early 2027, will offer places for up to 3,600 children a week across Western Sydney, providing fee-free, quality play-based educational programs.
“The Minns Labor Government is on track to deliver the biggest expansion of public preschools in NSW history with contracts now awarded to build 40 new public preschools, co-located with public schools across Western Sydney in areas where they are needed most,” said Deputy Premier, Minister for Education and Early Learning and Minister for Western Sydney, Prue Car.
“The NSW Government is committed to improving access to free quality public preschool for our littlest learners because we know how crucial the early stage is for a child’s development.
“I look forward to construction getting underway across Western Sydney and the remaining contracts awarded shortly.”
The new preschools will join the newly opened Gulyangarri Public Preschool in Liverpool as part of a historic building boom to deliver 100 new public preschools by 2027, doubling the previous number of public preschools in NSW.
Of the 100 new public preschools, 51 are metropolitan Sydney and 49 are in regional NSW, located in communities identified as most in need following a rigorous independent selection process.
A contract has been awarded to Richard Crookes Constructions to design and construct the 40 public preschools.
A further seven preschools will be built in Oatlands, Melonba, Gables, Greenway Park, Leppington, Melrose Park and Nirimba Fields, with contracts to be awarded later this year.
