Construction of the Tasmanian Government’s $12m Silverdome redevelopment project has commenced, with a Launceston company at the helm of works.
Minister for Sport, Nick Duigan said local construction company, Beardwood, will deliver the project.
“The upgrades include a new multi-purpose sports floor, more seating for spectators, more food and beverage facilities including a newly built function space and completely refurbished change room facilities for elite and community sport,” Minister Duigan said.
“The redevelopment will attract more events and deliver greater usage at both the elite and community level at one of Launceston’s most iconic multi-purpose indoor venues.”
Stadiums Tasmania CEO, James Avery said early works were progressing well and the project remained on track for completion later this year.
“These upgrades will help usher in new era for the Silverdome by introducing contemporary elements that improve the user and patron experience,” Mr Avery said.
“It will enhance Launceston’s ability to attract a greater variety and volume of events and secure the long-term future of those key events currently held at the venue.
“The appointment of the head contractor is a critical milestone for the project and to have a local firm assume this role further cements the project’s value to the local community.”
Bearwood director, Ash Beardwood, said the company was pleased to be nominated as Head Contractor for the Silverdome redevelopment.
“We are proud to lead this landmark project for our region and are committed to delivering these high-quality facilities on time for the community,” he said.
The Silverdome redevelopment is set for completion in late 2026.
