Works underway for Beaconsfield housing revitalisation

The creation of Lefroy, a large residential and commercial development, is underway with civil works commencing on the former Beaconsfield Challenger TAFE site.

The 14-hectare Lefroy precinct comprises of the former Beaconsfield Challenger TAFE and the adjacent Davis Park precinct.

The site is set to deliver up to 155 new dwellings, with a range of housing options including apartments and homesites sized up to 420 square metres.

“The start of civil works at the former TAFE site is a major step forward in the creation of Lefroy – a development that will deliver more affordable housing and revitalise the precinct,” said WA Planning and Lands Minister, John Carey.

“We’re delivering well-planned infill that is boosting housing supply and ensuring new residents have access to services and amenity.

“The revitilised precinct will reflect the unique history, charm and character Beaconsfield holds, while providing much needed housing opportunities within walking distance of Fremantle.”

The first lots are anticipated to be released for sale by the end of this year, with titles late 2026.

Coinciding with development at the TAFE site, the ongoing demolition program of old social housing stock in the Davis Park precinct continues, to be replaced with 110 modern social and affordable dwellings, greatlyrevitalising the area.

In addition, three major commercial lots were released today on the corner of South Street and Fifth Avenue, to create the the Lefroy Neighbourhood Centre. The centre will deliver a significant amount of new amenity, and could feature a supermarket, specialty retail, café and medical services.

It will also be a mixed use site delivering up to 170 dwellings, including a minimum of 30 social housing units within a medium to high-density residential development of up to six storeys.

On completion, Lefroy is overall expected to deliver up to 700 dwellings across a mix of low and mid-rise apartments and townhouses with up to 20% affordable and social housing.
