A woman has been charged after allegedly assaulting two police officers to avoid arrest in the state’s north on Friday.
Police say that at around 2.20pm on Friday, an officer attached to the Mid North Coast Dog Unit attended a restaurant carpark on Gordon Street, Port Macquarie, and attempted to speak with a 30-year-old woman wanted on multiple outstanding warrants.
“Shortly upon arrival, the woman allegedly exited an SUV and attempted to leave the carpark,” NSW Police said in a statement.
“It will be alleged that whilst the woman was directed to stop, she proceeded to assault the officer at the scene.
“The woman then re-entered the SUV, and whilst attempting to leave the carpark again, collided with a parked hatchback and pole.”
A short time later, the 30-year-old was removed from the car and arrested by officers attached to Mid North Coast Police District, with assistance from the Raptor Squad. During the arrest, police will allege the woman assaulted a second officer.
NSW Police said the two officers sustained minor injuries and did not require further treatment.
The 30-year-old was taken to Port Macquarie Base Hospital with minor injuries before she was taken to Kempsey Police Station where she was charged with nine offences, including assault police, hinder or resist police, drive recklessly and use offensive weapon to prevent lawful detention.
Police will allege the 30-year-old woman also assaulted a 33-year-old woman in Port Macquarie last week.
The woman was also charged by virtue of three outstanding warrants for domestic violence related offences.
She was refused bail to appear before Bail Division Court on Saturday.
