A 32-year-old woman has been charged after allegedly driving at police to avoid arrest in Sydney’s east over the weekend.
In a statement, NSW Police said that at around 9.50pm on Saturday, officers attached to Eastern Beaches Police Area Command attended a unit block on Clovelly Road, near Arden Street in Coogee, where they attempted to speak to a woman wanted on an outstanding warrant.
“Shortly upon arrival, police saw the woman enter a Holden hatchback before attempting exit the carpark,” NSW Police said.
“Officers directed the woman to stop; however, she allegedly drove at officers before leaving the scene in the Holden.”
Following a search of the area, police located the vehicle on Clovelly Road, near Bligh Place, after it had crashed into a number of parked cars with the driver allegedly running from the scene.
As a result, three vehicles were damaged, and the hatchback seized to undergo forensic examination, NSW Police stated.
Following the incident, officers commenced a search to locate the woman and after extensive inquiries located her on Bunnerong Road, Matraville, about 1.30pm on Sunday.
Police arrested the 32-year-old after a brief foot pursuit before taking her to Maroubra Police Station.
She was then taken to Prince of Wales Hospital for assessment before returning to Maroubra Police Station where she was charged with:
- Enter inclosed land not prescribed premises without lawful excuse
- Use offensive weapon to prevent lawful detention
- Not give particulars to owner of damaged property
The 32-year-old was also charged by virtue of two outstanding warrants.
She was refused bail to appear before Bail Division Local Court this week.
