WA Zero Emissions Vehicle rebate scheme to end

Applications for the WA Government’s popular Zero Emissions Vehicle (ZEV) rebate scheme will close at midnight 10 May.

The ZEV rebate scheme was announced in the 2022-23 State Budget to encourage the uptake of zero emission vehicles among Western Australian drivers by providing a $3,500 rebate to those who purchase an eligible vehicle and apply to the Department of Transport.

As of 31 March 2025, 11,868 ZEV rebate applications have been paid, totalling $41,538,000.

“WA drivers planning to make the switch to an electric vehicle have until midnight 10 May 2025 to submit an application for the $3,500 rebate from the Cook Government,” said Minister Assisting the Transport Minister, Jessica Stojkovski.

The Department of Transport’s licensing data has shown that the number of electric vehicles in WA increased by over 692 per cent between 31 December 2021 and 31 December 2024, with just over 25,000 zero emission vehicles now on WA roads.

“Growth in the number of Western Australians purchasing electric vehicles and sustained interest in the scheme prompted the Cook Government to increase investment by $14.7 million in 2024-25 to keep up with demand,” said Minister Stojkovski.

The scheme was introduced as part of the Cook Government’s Clean Energy Car Fund.

More information about the ZEV rebate scheme is available on the Department of Transport website.
