WA student publishes Swift-inspired tale of hope and resilience

Kaedyn was all smiles as he signed copies of his book for the attendees of his launch event.

A Year 6 Westminster Education Support Centre student has transformed a year of joy, challenge and adventure into a published book that celebrates resilience, imagination and community.

Staff say the school was filled with pride, joy and more than a few happy tears, as the school community came together to celebrate the launch of Music, Magic and Courage, a children’s book written by 11-year-old, Kaedyn.

Kaedyn lives with cerebral palsy and uses a wheelchair full-time. As a student counsellor, he’s known for his leadership, humour and big heart – and now, for becoming a published author.

His debut book is a magical, heartfelt adventure that blends real-life memories with imagination, including an unforgettable night at a Taylor Swift concert and a dream-come-true Disney cruise, granted by Starlight Foundation.

Kaedyn’s love for popstar Taylor Swift started upon his first viewing of The Eras Tour movie at the cinema. One viewing turned into five and before long, his mother, Vanessa, secured tickets to take Kaedyn to a real Taylor Swift concert.

The book launch was attended by Kaedyn’s family, therapists, the book’s 13-year-old illustrator Aeden Barry, and representatives from the Starlight Foundation and Rebound WA.

Students and staff from both Westminster ESC and Westminster Primary School joined in the celebration, which included speeches, performances of Kaedyn’s favourite Taylor Swift songs and a video reading of the book.

Westminster Education Support Centre Principal, Carmen Lopez said Kaedyn’s courage and creativity had left a lasting impact.

“Kaedyn, by sharing your story, you’re not just launching a book – you’re lighting the way for others to feel proud of who they are.”

His mum, Vanessa, delivered an emotional speech.

“Music, Magic and Courage is more than a book. It’s a love letter to our village, our journey and to you, Kaedyn. You are not just part of the story – you are the magic in it,” she said.

Kaedyn signed copies for friends, staff and guests and reflected on the experience.

“I just wanted to show people that you can do anything if you try,” he said.
