WA Premier, Roger Cook, is travelling to Indonesia and Singapore in a bid to deepen strategic and economic ties and reaffirm the State’s role in supporting the energy transition and decarbonisation of the ASEAN region.
While in Indonesia, the Premier will participate in strategic engagements with the East Java Provincial Government, Indonesia Australia Business Council East Java Chapter and the Australian Consul-General in Surabaya.
“Indonesia and Singapore are crucial trading partners for WA – that’s why I’m prioritising this important region for my first overseas mission since the State Election,” said Premier Cook.
“In 2025, we celebrate the 35th year of the sister-state relationship with East Java which continues to provide such a beneficial and fulfilling agreement for both sides.
“The ASEAN region is a major export market for WA, with a variety of sectors including minerals, energy and agriculture, it is also a vital region for the continued economic diversification of the State.
“I am looking forward to further strengthening our longstanding relationship with the region and continue to promote WA as an important trade ally.”
The Premier will spend two days in Surabaya before flying to Singapore.
A key engagement in Indonesia will be with the Persebaya Surabaya Football Club (Persebaya FC), who are set to visit Perth in July this year for a special exhibition match against the WA Men’s State team. Around 100 supporters will travel with Persebaya FC for this match, which will take place on 9 July at the Sam Kerr Football Centre and be televised live in Indonesia.
In Singapore, the Premier will participate in a roundtable discussion with government, businesses and investors to discuss energy transition and decarbonisation, and related opportunities.
