Western Australian Education Minister, Sabine Winton, has announced the 2025 WA Education Award winners, following a record number of nominations recognising exceptional schools and teachers.
The surge in nominations occurred alongside the addition of two new categories this year – the inaugural Minister’s Teacher of the Year and the Excellence in early childhood education awards.
“It is my great pleasure to celebrate the outstanding achievements of our winning educators and schools across Western Australia,” said Minister Winton.
“As a former teacher, I know firsthand how much passion, creativity, and care our educators bring to their work every single day – and how important it is that we recognise and celebrate that.
“With a record number of nominations and two new award categories, the WA Education Awards truly reflect the excellence and innovation happening in our classrooms,” she said.
The awards were attended by special guest and science communicator Dr Karl Kruszelnicki, known as ‘Dr Karl’, who participated in a Q&A with students from Warriapendi Primary School. Â
Science specialist, Christopher Lambe (pictured, above with Minister Winton), from Grandis Primary School was announced winner of the Minister’s Teacher of the Year, selected because of his outstanding professional knowledge and engagement.
Karratha Primary School was selected as the Excellence in early childhood educationaward winner, for demonstrating high-quality early learning and development.
Schools from across metropolitan and regional Western Australia were announced as winners across six categories, including John Curtin College of the Arts, Campbell Primary School, Ocean Reef Primary School, Wiluna Remote Community School, Bob Hawke College, and Rangeway Primary School.
Winners – who were awarded $20,000 each – were selected from four teachers and 28 schools and announced as finalists in September.
Prize money for winners and finalists can be used for professional development for staff, school projects, suitable activities or student resources.
“Congratulations to the winning schools and to Christopher Lambe for his dedication to science education and professional engagement, making him a stand-out for the inaugural Minister’s Teacher of the Year award,” said Minister Winton.
“I also want to recognise all of the finalists and every educator and school that was nominated. You make a meaningful difference in the lives of students and their families across our State.”
Winners of each category:
- Minister’s Teacher of the Year: Christopher Lambe, Grandis Primary School;
- Excellence in school leadership: John Curtin College of the Arts;
- Excellence in teaching and learning – primary: Campbell Primary School;
- Excellence in teaching and learning – secondary: Ocean Reef Senior High School;
- Excellence in cultural responsiveness: Wiluna Remote Community School;
- Excellence in disability and inclusion: Bob Hawke College;
- Excellence in wellbeing and learning: Rangeway Primary School; and
- Excellence in early childhood education: Karratha Primary School.
