WA Health professionals are being recognised through the state’s Health Excellence Awards, with more than 40 finalists contending for 13 titles across the health system.
Almost 200 nominations were received across all award categories, each acknowledging the outstanding health care provided across Western Australia.
Categories this year include preventive health, mental health, person-centred care, Aboriginal health, rural and remote health care, research and innovation, workplace wellbeing and culture, sustainability, and safety and quality.
“All the nominations are testament to the important work being carried out by health professionals throughout the WA public health system,” said Health Minister, Amber-Jade Sanderson (pictured).
“The finalists in this year’s WA Health Excellence Awards have been recognised for their outstanding contribution and commitment to providing safe, accessible and the best possible health care for all Western Australians.”
The awards also celebrate the sustainable and innovative virtual programs that have a significant impact on the wellbeing of patients and the wider community.
Digital programs designed to improve access to health care in rural and remote communities are among some of the finalists being recognised.
Primary health care integration, a new category for 2024, recognises projects that have improved collaboration of health care delivery, resulting in co-ordinated patient-centred care.
The Minister for Health’s Award recognises a Western Australian health professional’s lifetime achievement, while the most exceptional team or project will receive the WA Health Director General Award.
The 7News Health Hero – which was introduced last year – has provided patients, colleagues, and the community the opportunity to nominate their own healthcare champion.
Health Hero finalists include Armadale Health Service endocrinologist, Dr Danish Mahmud; Perth Children’s Hospital social worker, Susan Cordell; Albany Health Campus nurse practitioner, Kerin Young, and Fiona Stanley Hospital patient and family liaison manager, Angela Piscitelli.
