Eleven WA Aboriginal businesses have been selected to represent the state at the World Indigenous Business Forum (WIBF) 2025 in Melbourne.
Now in its 16th year, the WIBF is a leading global platform showcasing Indigenous economic development and entrepreneurship, attracting business leaders, policymakers and innovators from around the world.
“This is a fantastic opportunity for Aboriginal businesses from across Western Australia to showcase their innovation and expertise on a global stage,” said Aboriginal Affairs Minister, Don Punch.
“The World Indigenous Business Forum will open new doors for Aboriginal entrepreneurs, strengthening local economies and creating long-term opportunities for Aboriginal communities.
“By supporting these business leaders, we are celebrating Aboriginal enterprise and advancing self-determination.”
The Department of Energy and Economic Development (DEED) received 40 applications through its Expression of Interest process, with 58 per cent of applicants coming from female-owned businesses.
In addition, two female Aboriginal entrepreneurs have been sponsored to join the delegation through the WA Government’s New Industries and Innovation Fund.
The Team WA delegation, comprising Aboriginal entrepreneurs, small to medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and emerging exporters, will receive:
- B2B networking opportunities with Indigenous business leaders worldwide;
- learning opportunities, including market insights, capital investment strategies, and business capability development;
- covered flights to and from Melbourne, and accommodation costs while attending WIBF; and
- discounted conference tickets (to be purchased by delegates).
“Supporting Aboriginal entrepreneurs to connect with international markets is vital to building a diverse and resilient Western Australian economy,” said Science and Innovation Minister, Stephen Dawson.
“Through initiatives like the New Industries and Innovation Fund, we are backing Aboriginal business leaders to grow their capabilities, attract investment and drive innovation here at home.
“It is through this kind of collaboration and support that we can unlock new pathways for Aboriginal innovation and enterprise.”
The initiative aligns with the Department’s Reconciliation Action Plan and its vision to build a stronger, more diverse Western Australian economy for all.
The WIBF is being held from 28 to 30 October. For more information, see:Â https://wibf.ca/.
