Victorian Premier, Jacinta Allan, has thanked departing Victoria Police Chief Commissioner Shane Patton for his service, following his decision to depart the role effective immediately.
Commissioner Patton started as a police cadet in 1978 and went on to lead the force through significant challenges, particularly COVID-19, said the Premier.
“On behalf of the Victorian people, I thank Shane for his long and decorated service and his leadership though challenging times,” she said.
Rick Nugent APM will serve as acting Chief Commissioner of Victoria Police until a permanent replacement is chosen.
“Rick Nugent will commence in the role as soon as practicable, after he relinquishes his current position as Victoria’s Emergency Management Commissioner,” said Premier Allan.
“Deputy Commissioner Wendy Steendam AM will lead the organisation until Rick Nugent starts and I thank her for agreeing to this.
“I will always value the work our police officers do, and I will always back them.”
