Victorian Premier, Ben Carroll has announced an additional 150 Protective Services Officers (PSOs) will be recruited to help boost community safety.
The Premier said the Government will also change regulations relating to PSOs, which will allow them to patrol in more places where there is crime and anti-social behaviour, such as local shopping strips.
“We’ll also back Victoria Police to extend and expand Operation Pulse till the end of next year, allowing police and PSOs to patrol more major shopping centres,” said Mr Carroll.
“More police and PSOs in more places, more often – all part of Labor’s plan to keep Victorians safe.
“You’ll see more police where they are needed – keeping crime down and the community safe.”
The Premier said Victoria Police’s shopping centre safety initiative, Operation Pulse, had been welcomed by both shoppers and retailers, with more than 1,700 people arrested and more than 3,500 charges laid since it started.
Minister for Police, Paul Edbrooke, has welcomed the latest recruitment drive.
