The Northern Territory Government has confirmed the reopening of two schools as communities work to recover from recent flooding.
Kintore Street School O’Shea Campus (Years 7–12) and the Katherine Flexible Learning and Engagement Centre (KFLEC) both reopened to students today.
The Kintore Street School’s Kintore Campus, Families as First Teachers (FaFT) and preschool programs remain unable to reopen at this time, the Department of Education and Training confirmed.
School bus services remain suspended, and drivers are being asked to avoid flooded roads.
“We appreciate everyone’s patience and resilience as we work together to support a safe return to learning for all students,” the Department said in a statement.
“Jilkminggan School, Mataranka School, Nganmarriyanga School, Woolianna School and Wugularr School remain closed. Students from Nganmarriyanga and Woolianna Schools are attending pop-up schools in Darwin and Palmerston.
“Families should directly contact early childhood education and care services and St Joseph’s Catholic College Katherine to receive updates on their operating status.
“The Northern Territory Government thanks families, school staff and the wider community for their cooperation and resilience as recovery efforts continue. These pop‑up schools will help ensure continuity of learning and provide stability for children during this challenging time.”
