The Northern Territory Government has delivered an expansion of the Container Deposit Scheme (CDS), in an effort to put money back in Territorians’ pockets and get more litter out of the Top End’s parks and waterways.
From early 2026, the CDS will include all beverage containers up to 3L, including wine, spirits and plastic bottles which were not previously accepted for refund.
Minister for Lands, Planning and Environment, Joshua Burgoyne said he was excited to oversee the expansion.
“Throughout the Territory I’ve seen litter strewn across our waterways and in the parks that children play in,” Mr Burgoyne said.
“This expansion will help to further reduce litter in public spaces, making it safer and cleaner for Territorians to use those spaces.”
Expanding the CDS is about restoring the Territory lifestyle and putting more money back into the pockets of Territorians, the Minister said.
