Tenders have been released for the North West Regional Hospital Emergency Department and Ambulance Drop Off redevelopment, marking a new milestone for the project.
Minister for Health, Mental Health and Wellbeing, Bridget Archer said the works are part of the Tasmanian Government’s plan to upgrade health facilities on the North West coast.
“We are investing $14.5 million in modern, patient centred emergency care for the North West community,” Minister Archer said.
“The focus of the upgrades is to improve safety and security of the Emergency Department (ED) and ambulance drop off area for patients, hospital staff, carers, and paramedics.”
The ED redevelopment will deliver additional assessment rooms, increased waiting room space, and better facilities to support patients living with disabilities and mental health conditions.
“Redevelopment of the ambulance drop off area will also improve flow of patients being admitted to the ED, enabling faster response times,” said Minister Archer.
“This project is being delivered as part of Stage 1 of the North West Hospitals Masterplan, which is our vision and blueprint to transform health facilities in this region to meet the needs of the community, now and into the future.”
Designs have been developed in consultation with ED staff and clinicians, paramedics, and key stakeholders including Tasmania Police and consumer and carer representatives.
Subject to approvals and the appointment of a construction contractor, construction is expected to start in the second half of 2026.
