Tassie businesses on show at Singapore food expo

Eleven Tasmanian businesses have showcased their produce and beverages at one of Asia’s most influential trade events, the FHA -Food & Beverage, which was held at the Singapore Expo last week.

With more than 1,600 exhibitors and 65,000 attendees from more than 50 countries, the event provided a global stage for Tasmania’s world-class products and an important opportunity to connect with new markets.

Premier and Minister for Trade and Major Investment, Jeremy Rockliff said Tasmania was actively strengthening and broadening its international trade partnerships to ensure long-term success and resilience for the state’s exporters.

“As part of our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future, we are supporting businesses to expand into new and emerging markets – ensuring our economy remains strong, competitive, and adaptable,” Premier Rockliff said.

“We’ve already seen the value of this approach. At last year’s Singapore event, five Tasmanian businesses – Forager Foods, Hunter Island Distillery, Tasman Sea Salt, Bruny Island Cheese and Beer, and Taylor & Smith Distilling Co. – successfully secured international trade deals.”

The Premier said Tasmania’s participation in global events like FHA was part of a deliberate strategy to diversify trade relationships and reduce exposure to shifting global economic conditions.

“We’re focused on building trade partnerships across a wider range of markets to future-proof Tasmanian businesses. Singapore is a key gateway to the broader Asian region and provides significant opportunities to promote our premium products to the world.”

Tasmania’s export value of food and agribusiness products to Singapore rose by nearly 21% in the 12 months to January this year.

“This growth highlights the benefits of a diversified trade strategy. We’re giving businesses the tools to explore new markets, strengthen existing relationships, and unlock future opportunities,” Premier Rockliff said.

“We know we have what the world wants  – and we are committed to helping more local businesses access global markets and thrive.”

“Partnering with Trade Tasmania at FHA this year has been a game changer for us with export into South East Asia. Having direct access to buyers and importers, as a collaborative approach with the other local producers under The Tasmanian Brand has played a major part in our successful export journey,” said International Sales – Brand and Business Development Manager, Spreyton Fresh, John Mann.

Adams Distillery co-founder, Adam Saunders said that attending FHA Singapore under the Tasmanian Banner with Trade Tasmania has been instrumental in realising the company’s export strategy.

“The support that Trade Tasmania has given us to gain knowledge of the market and giving us direct contact with inbound buyers has been invaluable,” said Mr Saunders.
