Tasmanian student survey shows progress in wellbeing and safety

Tasmania’s 2026 Student Wellbeing and Engagement Survey has shown positive progress in student wellbeing and sense of safety, along with an increase in participation in the Government survey.

Minister for Education, Jo Palmer, said the result reflects the State Government’s strong commitment to supporting students.

“The latest Survey maintained strong participation rates, with 27,810 students participating,” Minister Palmer said.

“I am so pleased to see the significant increases in students reporting medium or high wellbeing for School Belonging, up 4.9%, and feeling Safe at School, up 3.6%, since 2022.”

The survey found positive relationships remain a strength within Tasmanian schools, with 95% of students reporting they have good relationships and support from their teachers, and 89% of students saying they have good quality social support from their peers.

“We are also seeing positive movement in our students’ learning and engagement, with improvements in perseverance, motivation to achieve goals, and learning practices,” said Minister Palmer.

“Together, these results reinforce the important work happening across our schools every day to create safe, supportive and engaging learning environments.”
