Sergeant Barry Randall from Mornington Peninsula Police has been awarded the Victorian Rotary Emergency Services Community Award (RESCA) for his work with Operation Soul Surf – a surf therapy program he launched in 2021 with the mission of providing opportunities for first responders and military veterans impacted by trauma.
With over 200 participants having graduated the program, Soul Surf has gained national and international recognition for the support it has provided to participants and the outcomes it has achieved.
The free four-week course operates out of Point Leo Beach, where Sgt Randall and other surf coach instructors are ‘Healing minds one wave at a time’.
The awards are designed to recognise emergency service personnel who have gone above and beyond their call of duty and reflect the Rotary motto of ‘Service above Self’.
Sgt Randall has now been invited to the National RESCA ceremony in Canberra later this year.
