The Northern Sydney Local Health District and HealthShare NSW are progressing work to transition Northern Beaches Hospital to the NSW Health system, with onboarding underway for more than 1,900 clinical and support staff who have accepted offers of employment.
With the handover scheduled in less than a month, the Government says 96% of job offers have been accepted with 1,677 existing nurses, doctors, allied health professionals, and support service staff ready to work for NSW Health. In addition, about 200 cleaners and food service staff will join HealthShare NSW.
“The onboarding of staff marks the next major milestone in the Northern Beaches Hospital’s transition from the private to public health system,” said NSW Minister for Health, Ryan Park.
“The NSW Government is looking forward to officially welcoming the hard-working staff of Northern Beaches Hospital to NSW Health.
“It is wonderful to see so many clinicians and health professionals choose to continue working at the hospital to care for the people of the Northern Beaches community.”
The Minister confirmed that junior medical officers (JMOs) and staff specialists have received their job offers, with visiting medical officers (VMOs) contracts issued in late March.
Northern Sydney Local Health District Chief Executive Adjunct Professor Anthony M. Schembri AM said an incredible amount of work was occurring to onboard the thousands of staff joining NSW Health.
“While our focus is on preparing for handover, the delivery of safe patient care remains at the forefront of everything we are planning,” he said.
“I look forward to working alongside the staff of Northern Beaches Hospital and caring for our community.”
Under the agreement for transition of the hospital:
- The entire 494-bed hospital will return to public ownership;
- Clinical and support staff currently working at Northern Beaches Hospital have been offered jobs by NSW Health at the facility, and
- Staff entitlements to annual, long service and sick leave will transfer across from Healthscope to NSW Health.

“While this period has undoubtedly been challenging for those working at Northern Beaches Hospital, they have continued to make sure providing safe, high-quality care for their patients and community is the top priority.
“I’d also like to once again sincerely thank all those working so hard to make sure this significant and complex transition is as smooth as possible for all involved.”
In March 2026, the NSW Government announced private surgery bookings would continue uninterrupted at Northern Beaches Hospital while the hospital transitions to the NSW Health system.
The NSW Government has also announced the state’s first High Volume Planned Surgery Hub will be established at Northern Beaches Hospital, expanding the hospital’s role and helping reduce surgery wait times across NSW.
Up to an extra 5,000 surgeries will be performed at the hospital each year through the newly established Planned Surgery Hub.
