Search continues for missing Queensland Police inspector

The Queensland Police Service (QPS) is assisting with search efforts for one of its own in NSW after he was reported missing yesterday in waters off the northern NSW coast.

NSW Police are leading the search in the Broken Head area in an effort to locate 45-year-old Inspector Jay Notaro (pictured). The alarm was raised when the officer’s surfboard washed up on Broken Head, south of Byron Bay, at around midday on Tuesday. A set of car keys was also located.

Police and the officer’s family are concerned for his welfare as they say his disappearance is considered out of character.

Acting Commissioner of Police, Shane Chelepy APM, said the QPS is offering every support to the family and the investigation.

“The Queensland Police Service is extremely concerned for the welfare of our member, who is a highly valued colleague and friend to many in the Service,” Acting Commissioner Chelepy said.

“Our thoughts are with the officer’s family and friends during this extremely difficult time and every support is being made available.

“I am grateful for the efforts of New South Wales Police and our own teams involved with the ongoing search.”

Anyone with information that may be able to assist with the whereabouts of the member is asked to contact Police.
